Earlier this week, Black Lotus made a press release formally announcing our moderation of a session at HostingCon, "Technology Strategies and Practices for Defending Against DDoS Attacks." Today, Arbor Networks formally announced the attendance of Mr. Carlos Morales, Vice President, Systems Engineering and Sales Operations.
I am very excited at the opportunity to speak with our panelists, especially Mr. Morales. In next week's session, Mr. Morales will discuss the practical defense against DDoS attacks that can be employed by any hosting company from the vantage point of the Enterprise appliance market perspective. I will be asking Mr. Morales scenario based questions and providing him an opportunity to discuss the DDoS mitigation ecosystem as it pertains to appliances and cloud based solutions.
"Hosting providers often have a higher risk of DDoS attacks than other online businesses because, in effect, they aggregate the risk of all their customers," says Carlos Morales, Vice President of Global Sales Engineering and Operations at Arbor Networks. "Planning and mitigation strategies are essential because the impact of an availability attack is directly related to preparedness, the time it takes to identify and mitigate it. Unprepared organizations will see extended downtime and all the associated costs, from lost revenue to broken SLAs to brand damage."
His insight will be extremely valuable to SMB hosting providers and the enterprise alike, as business owners and managers navigate this evolving threat, one that has continued to grow exponentially since 2007. I am particularly interested in hearing his perspective on DDoS attack vectors and the mitigation strategies that must be employed to defeat each threat. Historically, DDoS appliance vendors have only been able to successfully tackle threats at Layer 3 and 4 and I am quite eager to hear his perspective on the evolving Layer 7 threat.
